Our Story
El Geländer —which in German means “railing” or “handrail”— takes its name from that which holds us as we walk. This is how we understand writing: a handrail to hold onto in the vertigo of the contemporary world, a guide that allows us to move forward without losing our balance.
This project is born from the conviction that journalism and literature are not separate territories, but two ways of looking at reality: one with the precision of the chronicler, the other with the freedom of the essayist. At El Geländer, both perspectives coexist.

Our Purpose
We publish texts that take the craft of writing seriously. Chronicles that document the present with the patience of a historian. Essays that explore ideas without renouncing the beauty of prose. And, from time to time, some discovery worth sharing.
We do not aspire to immediacy or virality. We aspire, simply, for every text to find its reader.
Our Contributors
El Geländer is an open project for collaboration with journalists, writers, and essayists who share our sensibility. If you would like to propose a text, you can write to us through our contact page.
